Herbert joins Rhyl as Greg Strong's assistant

Chris Herbert
RHYL boss Greg Strong has finally chosen his assistant following the departure of Gareth Owen to Airbus.

Chris Herbert who was in sole charge at Welshpool last season has joined Greg's backroom staff to help manage the team towards the single goal for 2011/12 - to win the HGA league and gain promotion back to the Welsh Premier.

"Chris did a remarkable job at Welshpool last year, given their double spate of points deductions," says a statement from Belle Vue.

"With a relatively small budget and little room for manoeuvre, Chris put together a squad of players with a great team spirit that until the latter stages clawed back the initial 18 point deduction to leave them in a ‘positive' points position.

"Unfortunately for the club, a second charge of playing an eligible player in the last game of the season - when they were struggling for the bare 11 players - returned them to a negative points total.

"Chris is looking forward to helping Greg put together a squad for the coming campaign and brings with him a wealth of knowledge and contacts for the Huws Gray league. He starts his work tonight at the Rhyl's second week of pre-season training.

"As he is still registered as a player, Chris may also feature on the field next season as much as off it!"
