Long service award
BUCKLEY Town secretary and Huws Gray Alliance management committee member Mike Williams was presented with the FAW service to football medal by FAW President Phil Pritchard at the NEWFA AGM.
At last night's NEWFA Annual General Meeting, Buckley Town Secretary Mike Williams was honoured by Philip Pritchard the President of the FAW with the presentation of a Long Service Award.
Mike has been involved with Buckley for almost 50 years. Originally, he joined as a goalkeeper but soon realised that he would not make the grade as a player.
He offered to help with putting up the nets but found himself on the committee, "We need some young blood he was told."
He did manage to make a couple of appearances but as he says, "Not through choice, they were out of necessity." It is as the club Secretary that he is most well known in the local football community and it is in that position which he has excelled for over 20 years.
He has seen much change at the club including the amalgamation of Buckley Rovers and Wanderers to form Buckley Town in 1977 and the phoenix like move of the club to its current home of Globe Way from Hawkesbury.
Over that time he has seen the club grow into one of the Huws Gray Alliance's strongest clubs and played very much a pivotal role in the clubs growth.
Congratulation on the FAW award - a true clubman
