FAW launches strategic plan

The Football Association of Wales unveil its Strategic Plan

The Football Association of Wales today unveiled its Strategic Plan and vision for the future of Welsh football at an event supported by the League Secretary John Deakin and his successor, Gwyn Derfel.

At St David's Hotel in Cardiff Bay, the audience heard from the Chief Executive of the FAW, Jonathan Ford, the First Minister, Carwyn Jones and the newly appointed National Team Manager, Chris Coleman.

Jonathan Ford, pictured below, said: "The Strategic Plan we are launching today is a manifestation of a lot of hard work from a lot of people.

“The message has been clear on the badge for years. Gorau Chwarae Cyd Chwarae. Best Play is Team Play. Our messages are clear; greater team work, better communication, a longer term perspective through evolution and winning more."

He added: 'Included in our vision of success is a Welsh way of playing and qualification for a major tournament. Also, a Premier League and domestic competitions that have a strong identity within the Welsh sporting psyche.

"It is also important to be progressive and promote a forward thinking, modern and high profile FAW."

The FAW was delighted to receive the backing and endorsement of the First Minister, Carwyn Jones.

Specifics within the Strategy relating to the League include;

  • Assist clubs' preparation to improve European results
  • Continued broadcast presence of live WPL matches
  • Research into the benefits of salary cap in the WPL
  • Research into the benefits of introducing Financial Fair Play Regulations
  • Include junior and female development in Domestic Licence
  • Re-introduce programme of drug testing in the Welsh Premier League
